Your Placement and Progress

To ensure you start at the right place, all students take an initial placement exam before commencing any course. This allows us to assign you to the appropriate level and allows our instructors to further assess your individual needs and objectives on the first day. Each of our eight levels is divided into a three-week segment, commencing every Monday. The course is an ideal 60 hours long per level (20 hours per week), a duration we’ve found to be perfect for building the skills necessary for oral and written communication.

Each three-week segment concludes with a Thursday review and a Friday exam, preparing you to confidently progress to the next level. Upon leaving our school, every student receives a diploma indicating their final level of study, which is recognized by national and international authorities.

What will I learn during my Spanish course at Ibero Spanish School?

Our curriculum is divided into eight levels, each with a clear set of learning objectives. We focus on giving you the tools and confidence to deal with Spanish speakers in any situation. Here is a detailed breakdown of what you will learn as you progress through our program.

Beginner Levels (Principiante I & II) 🎓

Beginner I: You'll start with the fundamentals: the alphabet, basic verbs like ser and estar, and essential vocabulary for people, places, and objects. The goal is to use simple structures in the present indicative and understand gender and numbers.

Beginner II: We'll introduce reflexive verbs, stem-changing verbs, and the present progressive. You will learn how to use direct and indirect pronouns, and key vocabulary for weather and everyday expressions. The goal is to confidently use all present indicative verbs, including irregulars.

Intermediate Levels (Intermedio I, II, & III) 📚

Intermediate I: The focus shifts to past and future tenses, including the preterite and imperfect. You'll master the use of por and para, direct and indirect object pronouns, and future and conditional tenses.

Intermediate II: We'll dive into more complex grammar, including the imperative (commands) and the present subjunctive. You'll learn to manage the contrasts between the subjunctive, indicative, and infinitive moods, which are crucial for expressing opinions and desires.

Intermediate III: This level provides a comprehensive review of the subjunctive in all its forms, as well as conditional phrases and clauses. You will learn more complex connectors and relative pronouns, allowing for richer and more nuanced conversation.

Advanced Levels (Pre-avanzado, Avanzado & Superior) ✨

Pre-Advanced: We will explore impersonal and passive constructions, indirect and direct speech, and advanced verbal correlations. The goal is to use all clauses and understand the complex relationship between verbs and tenses.

Advanced: Your skills will be refined with a complete review of all tenses. You'll learn idiomatic expressions, "lunfardo" (Argentine slang), and master punctuation and accentuation. The goal is to use all Spanish verb types with fluency.

Superior: At this final level, you will engage in lectures, literature, and advanced conversation practice. The goal is to be totally fluent in Spanish, capable of discussing complex topics with a native-like command of the language.

How long would that take? Will I be fluent in three months? ⏳

• Your path to fluency is a journey, and the time it takes depends on several factors, including your starting level and the time you dedicate to your studies.
• Each of our levels is a 60-hour segment, typically completed over three weeks with 20 hours of class time per week.
• While you can make incredible progress in a short amount of time, achieving full fluency in just three months is a very ambitious goal. In that period, a dedicated student can typically reach the Intermediate I (B1) level, allowing for solid communication in most everyday situations. According to the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), an English speaker needs approximately 600-750 hours of study to reach professional working proficiency in Spanish. Our Spanish immersion lessons program, however, is designed to accelerate this process. With daily classes, on-site accommodation, and constant practice in a Spanish-speaking city like Buenos Aires, you will progress much faster than in a traditional classroom setting. While three months can get you to a very competent conversational level, true fluency requires sustained effort and immersion over a longer period.
