Exploring Buenos Aires. Where to eat and drink in Palermo

A Foodie’s Guide to Palermo: Where to Eat and Drink in Buenos Aires

For me, traveling and eating are inseparable. While I enjoy spending time in my own kitchen, nothing compares to the joy of discovering a world-class restaurant. I am lucky enough to live in Palermo, a neighborhood that is essentially the culinary heart of Buenos Aires. Surrounded by an endless array of cafes and bistros, I truly feel like I’ve found my personal gastronomic heaven.

While Palermo is vast, I spend most of my time in Palermo Hollywood and Palermo Soho. I’m constantly updating this list as I explore new corners of the city, so be sure to check back for fresh finds!

Premier Steakhouses (Parrillas)

Don Julio

If it were my final night in the city, you’d find me here. While Buenos Aires is full of parrillas, Don Julio is in a league of its own for food quality and service.

The Experience: It’s upscale yet offers incredible value. Start with a deep Malbec and appetizers like grilled provoleta or morcilla (blood sausage).

The Main Event: Order the bife de chorizo (sirloin) or entraña (skirt steak) with a side of fries.

Don't Miss: The chocolate mousse is arguably the best in the city.

Location: Guatemala 4691, Palermo Soho. Reservations are essential.

Las Cabras

For a lively, budget-friendly, and unpretentious meal, this is the spot.

The Vibe: It’s always buzzing. They use wooden cutting boards as plates—a sign they take their meat seriously.

What to Order: The portions are massive. The "Gran Bife Las Cabras" or a mixed plate of vacio, asado, and entraña is perfect for sharing. Try the house wine served in a traditional "penguin" pitcher.

Location: Fitz Roy 1795, Palermo Hollywood. Walk-ins only; arrive before 8:00 PM.

International & Contemporary Dining

Las Pizarras Bistro

Named after the chalkboards (pizarras) that display the daily menu, this intimate spot is perfect for a special date. They serve unique dishes you won't find elsewhere, like rabbit with romesco or tender lamb steak.

Location: Thames 2296, Palermo Soho.

Fukuro Noodle Bar

When you need a break from beef, head here for incredible Asian fusion.

The Highlights: Steamed buns, juicy dumplings, and rich ramen.

Sweet Treat: Try the "#FernetTheGreat" ice cream sandwich.

Location: Costa Rica 5514, Palermo Hollywood. Cash only.

Osaka

This Japanese-Peruvian (Nikkei) fusion restaurant changed my mind about sushi in Argentina. It’s pricey, but the quality is unmatched.

Must-Try: The Ceviche Tasting and the Wagyu Ishiyaki, which you cook on a hot stone at your table.

Location: Soler 5608, Palermo Hollywood.

NOLA

A slice of New Orleans in Palermo Viejo. This gastropub is famous for its fried chicken, gumbo, and craft beer. It’s casual, spicy, and perfect for a night out with friends.

Location: Gorriti 4389. Cash only.

The Best of Brunch

UCO (Fierro Hotel)

For a sophisticated weekend brunch, UCO is unbeatable. It’s a multi-course feast featuring homemade cold cuts, Irish breakfast staples, or smoked trout Eggs Benedict.

Location: Soler 5862, Palermo Hollywood.

Olsen

A Nordic-inspired favorite for Sunday brunch. Their set menus are enormous, featuring everything from medialunas and yogurt to smoked salmon and specialty vodka cocktails.

Tip: It’s popular with locals and tourists alike—make a reservation!

Location: Gorriti 5870, Palermo Hollywood.

Magdalena’s Party

The ultimate expat hangout. If you’re craving American-style pancakes, breakfast burritos, or bottomless mimosas, this is your home.

Location: Thames 1795, Palermo Soho.

Perfect Lunch Spots

Real Revolución: Authentic Mexican flavors with real heat. Their burritos and homemade guacamole are the best in the area. (Honduras 5143)

Sudestada: A top choice for Southeast Asian cuisine. Their weekday "fixed price" lunch menu is a steal, especially the Bo Xao (beef wok). (Guatemala 5602)

La Panera Rosa: A whimsical, pink-themed spot specializing in savory crêpes and massive waffles. (Borges 1685)

Specialty Coffee & Cafes

Full City Coffee House: Owned by Colombians who roast their own beans. Their coffee is flawless, and they surprisingly serve one of the best burgers in the city. (Thames 1535)

In Bocca al Lupo: A charming Italian cafe. Perfect for a macchiatone and Nutella-filled medialunas. (Bonpland 1965)

Lattente: Strictly about the coffee. It’s small, busy, and serves some of the best-crafted lattes in Soho. (Thames 1891)

Birkin: A chic spot that feels like a slice of NYC. Excellent shrimp sandwiches and expertly brewed cappuccinos. (República Árabe Siria 3061)

Cocktails & Nightlife

Victoria Brown Coffee & Bar

A hidden gem. By day, it’s a quiet coffee shop; by night, a secret door opens to a sprawling steampunk speakeasy.

The Drink: Try "El Cobre"—a rum cocktail served in a glass smoked over burning American Oak.

Location: Costa Rica 4827, Palermo Soho.

Negroni Bar

An Italian-style bar that lives up to its name. Their "Negroni Barmaid" (infused with cinnamon and smoked vanilla) is a revelation. They also have a great rooftop terrace for summer nights.

Location: El Salvador 5602, Palermo Hollywood.
